Hello, my name is Sèbastien La Roche. I'm 19 years old and I come from Quebec City, Canada.
I am currently at the end of my gap year taken after graduating from high school, eagerly awaiting to start my studies at Creighton University in Omaha to pursue my dream of becoming a dentist.

I took a post-graduate year at Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY and when I arrived my plans were to excel in sports and get good grades. It was at this point that I met David during a mandatory college counseling session. We talked, and he realized that I had not taken any steps to apply to certain universities I was interested in. Immediately, he offered to schedule a meeting before it was too late.

After our initial meetings, David and I built a strong connection that was incomparable to the rest of the staff. Even when I was running late, David took the opportunity to take me under his wing and spend as much time as needed to steer me in the right direction. Whether it was early mornings or even during dinner hours, he went out of his way to check in on me and see if I had any updates on my applications. When we were in his office, he always made sure I was comfortable with the decisions being made. He never hesitated to call my parents or ask me uncomfortable questions. He had no fear in tackling problems head-on, and most importantly, he was very good at boosting my morale and instilling confidence in me.

Later on, David and I chose eight schools to apply to that aligned with my values, budget, and genuine interest: Creighton, Marquette, LeMoyne, Canisius, University of New England, University of New Hampshire, Gonzaga, and Regis. I owe him a big thank you because none of this would have been possible without him, especially in less than two months. With his extensive network, he was able to write personal messages, make special requests, and arrange important meetings with the universities where I had sent my applications to strengthen my interest.

To my surprise, I was accepted to nearly every institution and was offered merit scholarships at each one! His belief in me gave me hope that it was truly possible, and I am sincerely grateful to him. I can never thank David enough for the work and opportunity he provided me while making me feel like he was my mentor. Today, I am soon starting my studies for my dream career, with the help of a generous scholarship that David facilitated which will greatly supports my parents in the path I have chosen to pursue.

Quand je suis arrivé à Northwood School, mes plans étaient d'exceller dans les sports et d'obtenir de bonnes notes. C'est à ce moment-là que j'ai rencontré David lors d'une séance obligatoire de conseil collégial. Nous avons discuté et il a réalisé que je n'avais entrepris aucune démarche pour postuler à certaines universités qui m'intéressaient. Immédiatement, il m'a proposé de prendre rendez-vous avant qu'il ne soit trop tard.

Après nos premières rencontres, David et moi avons construit une forte connexion qui était incomparable avec le reste du personnel. Même si j'étais en retard, David a saisi l'opportunité de me prendre sous son aile et d'utiliser tout le temps nécessaire pour me diriger dans la bonne direction. Que ce soit tôt le matin ou même pendant les heures du dîner, il sortait de son chemin pour me demander comment j'allais et si j'avais des nouvelles de mes démarches. Lorsque nous étions dans son bureau, il s'assurait toujours que je me sente bien avec les décisions prises, il n'était jamais gêné d'appeler mes parents ou de me poser des questions inconfortables, il n'avait aucune peur de faire face aux problèmes et surtout, il était très bon pour me remonter le moral et me donner confiance en moi.

Plus tard, David et moi avons choisi huit écoles auxquelles postuler, qui correspondaient à mes valeurs, à mon budget et qui m'intéressaient réellement : Creighton, Marquette, LeMoyne, Canisius, University of New England, University of New Hampshire, Gonzaga et Regis. Je lui dois un grand merci car tout cela n'aurait pas été possible sans lui, surtout en moins de deux mois. Avec son vaste réseau de contacts, il a pu écrire des messages personnels, faire des demandes spéciales et planifier des rencontres importantes avec les universités où j'avais envoyé mes demandes pour renforcer mon intérêt.

À ma grande surprise, j'ai été accepté dans chaque établissement et j'ai même reçu une bourse dans chacun d'eux ! Sa confiance en moi m'a donné l'espoir que c'était vraiment possible et je lui suis sincèrement reconnaissant. Je ne pourrai jamais assez remercier David pour le travail et l'opportunité qu'il m'a offerts tout en me faisant sentir comme si c'était mon mentor. Aujourd'hui, je vais bientôt commencer mes études pour mon métier de rêve, avec l'aide d'une belle bourse qui soutient énormément mes parents dans le chemin que j'ai choisi de suivre.
