Mr. McCauley played an instrumental role in my growth and career as my high school college counsellor. As a skilled professional who had prior experience in Asia, Mr. McCauley was able to understand and navigate me through a college searching process that was both foreign and daunting. I fondly remember our 1:1 discussion in his office, where we thoroughly discussed the various college offerings, with the intent of finding a school that was a good fit both intellectually and culturally. I also remember nights where Mr. McCauley worked late in his office to review my essays, making sure that I was able to craft a college essay that not only highlighted my personal strengths, but also to weave together a narrative that spoke to who I am. Thanks to Mr. McCauley’s help and advice, I was ultimately accepted into McGill University in Canada, where I majored in engineering.
My time at McGill was both challenging but also rewarding, a testament to Mr. McCauley’s ability to pick a school that was ‘meant’ for me. I ultimately wound up in bioengineering, which weaved together my interests in engineering, mathematics, and biology. After graduating, I decided to take a small pivot into public health, where I majored in epidemiology and worked a lot with mathematical models to understand population health. I’m currently employed as a data scientist residing in San Francisco. I’m forever grateful for the role Mr. McCauley played in my life, and consider him not only as my college counselor but also a friend.
